A painter and an illustrator, Jean-Philippe Delhomme has contributed to numerous magazines and ad campaigns around the world since the late ’80s. His work has gained recognition with award-winning ad campaigns for Barneys New York, SAAB USA, The Mark Hotel New York, Le Bon Marché. He has also directed animated commercials, most notably for Saab USA, and Visa France.
As a Fashion illustrator he painted sceneries from the catwalk and défilés behind the scenes for British and French Vogue, Libération, Madame Figaro and his own blog The Unknown Hipster.
A chronicler of culture, he has written and illustrated several books: New York Travel Book for Louis Vuitton, A Paris Journal and The Unknown Hipster Diaries both publishedby August Editions, The Cultivated Life published by Rizzoli International; Design Addicts published by Thames & Hudson; and Le Drame de la Déco, Art Contemporain, La Chose Littéraire and Scènes de la Vie Parentale published by Editions Denoël.
He has also penned 4 novels as well as articles for French GQ, Architectural Digest France, Vogue Paris and Pin-Up magazine.
For more than 10 years, he illustrated Glenn O’Brien’s famous column, The Style Guy for GQ USA along with his best selling book How to be a man.
He has beenwriting and illustrating his own columns Design Addicts for Architecture Digest France, L’intervista Impossibile for Grazia Casa, Social Studies for the Los Angeles Times and more recently Pariser Tagerbuch for Zeit Magazin, the diary of a year in Paris, published as « A Paris Journal » by August Editionsin 2016.
His illustrations have been featured in Wallpaper, Apartamento, System, W, New York Magazine, New York Observer, Interview, GQ France and USA, M Le Monde, ELLE Decor, The New Yorker, Vogue Paris, Vogue Japan, Vogue Spain, Casa Brutus, Corriere de la Sera, Case da Abitare, Stern, Die Spiegel, Libération, “Série Limitée” Les Échos.
The legendary Paris club Chez Castel commissioned him to paint a mural.
As a first major collaboration with a Fashion brand, Moncler commissioned him for 2 collections based on his illustrations, The Poscards Collection for summer 2017, and an up-coming winter ski series.
His latest illustrated publications include Hennessy, A Toast to the World’s Preeminent Spirit, by Glenn O’Brien, and Dior and the South by Laurence Benaïm, both
published by Rizzoli New York.
His work has been internationally exhibited with shows at Galerie Martine Gossieaux and Colette in Paris; Wright Gallery in NYC, Partners & Spade, Danziger Projects and FIAF gallery in New York; the French Institutes in Berlin and Munich; the Festival International de la Mode et de la Photographie in Hyères, France; the Fashion Illustration Gallery in London; Museo del Traje, Madrid and the Shiseido and Rocket Gallery in Tokyo.
For the recent years, in parallel to his illustrations, Jean-Philippe Delhomme has been focusing on developping his painter’s work, showing at Lucien Terras. gallery in New York.
